Computer Network Devices

1. Routers
A router is a device that functions to connect two or more networks so that data transmission from one device to another can be received. The router can connect networks that use topologies such as bus, star and ring.

With the device called router, two different networks can be connected, for example 135.165.112.6/24 can be connected to 163.190.231.4/24 and vice versa.

The process of doing this routing occurs at the third layer at the OSI Layer. It should also be noted that the way the router performs is almost the same as the bridge that both forwards data.
The use of this router is often used in network technology based on the TCP / IP protocol. The router used in this case is often referred to as the IP router.

In addition, a router can also be used to create a connection between a LAN network and a telecommunication service (telecommunication leased line / Digital Subscriber Line). This router is often called the access server.

There are also routers that connect the local network to a DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) network connection. This router is called a DSL router.

The routers above are usually equipped with a firewall feature. Routers also have the ability to block data traffic sent via broadcast. This prevents broadcast storms from occurring which can result in slower network performance.

2. Wireless Cards
Wireless Data is a network that is able to connect two devices without using cables. Wireless Cards can connect two or more computer devices so that they can be connected to each other via a Wi-Fi network and without using cables.

Of course we often use it right? Because through the wifi network, we can feel the maximum speed of the internet.

3. Device LAN Card
As with other network devices, this LAN Card is a network device that can connect data transfers from one device to another.

But on this LAN Card you have to use a cable so that data can get to other devices. In using this LAN, data can be transmitted using UTP cable network media.

4. Bridges
This Bridge device serves to expand the network to other forms of a wider network so that it can be used on other devices. In the performance of this bridge, it must recognize the MAC address that usually transmits data to the network, then the bridge makes an automatic table. The advantage of this bridge device is that it can determine which segments will be rooted or filtered.

5. Hubs
Hubs on computers are used to share servers with other networks, while the weakness of this Hub is that if it is damaged, the network transmission to the computer also cannot run so it cannot adjust the speed of data sent to other computers.

The working principle of the hub is by copying a set/package of data from a source connected to the port on the hub and distributing it to all ports connected to the hub.
If in one room there are 5 people, and only one person has a meal. Then the function of the hub is to share the food that only 1 person has to all the people in the room.

However, the weakness of the hub is that it cannot divide data packets (food in the example above) evenly to each port (people in the example above) fairly and evenly. That's what distinguishes between a hub and a switch. If the switch can divide the data packets evenly.

6.Switches
A switch is a piece of hardware whose function is almost the same as a HUB, it can divide a local network between many computer devices. While the main function of this switch is to receive signals, send network data from the server to other network devices.
The disadvantages of using these cables are usually complications because they also have to require the location of the cable placement and so on.

9. NIC
NIC or Network Interface Card is a card that also plays an important role for computers. The NIC is usually embedded in a computer so that the device can connect to a LAN network. The NIC function allows the device to connect to the network via a wired connection.

10. Modems
A modem is a hardware device that can transmit signal data changes to analog and then return to digital signal data so that the computer can run. Usually when the modem gets an analog signal, it will convert it into a digital signal and send it to the computer.
In a sense, the modem can make our computer / PC connected to the internet network. There are many types of modems that we are used to seeing and each device also has its own qualities.

11. Repeaters
The next example of a computer network device is a repeater. Repeater is a network device to strengthen signal. Repeater devices can amplify signals over long distances. Repeater functions are:

Extending Server Signal Coverage
So, if a server uses a repeater, the signal will be further accessible by other devices. The point is, at a longer distance a device can access data packets from the server.
Easier to Access WiFi Signals
With a repeater, it will be easier for many devices to access wifi because the network has been strengthened by using a repeater.
Minimizing the Use of Network Cables
The use of repeaters minimizes the existence of quite a lot of network cables. That's because the repeater amplifies the signal so it doesn't require cables to access the data packets.
In essence, the repeater function strengthens the data signal so that it is more easily accessible.

12. Connector
The connector is a tool that connects the cable to the Network Adapter. The existence of this connector is also very vital for computer equipment because if there is no such tool, the computer cannot operate properly.

There are several types of connectors that are commonly installed on computer devices, including:
• RJ-45 connector is used for UTP cable
• BNC/T connector is used for Coaxial Cable
• ST connector is used for Fiber Optic Cable.

Yes, the existence of a connector cannot be separated from other devices, even though at first glance it does not have much function, but without a connector, the computer cannot function either.

13. Servers
A computer network device is a tool or tool that is useful for achieving the goals of a computer network function. One type of device is a server. Server is a computer or device that provides services or services to clients connected to it.

Usually server computers are equipped with high specifications for their processors, such as 16GB RAM combined with Intel Xeon. The use of a server computer is as a provider of information data which will later be sent and also spread over the network.

All of this data will be connected through a network system so that it can go to the client computer. It is better if the server computer is placed in a room that has an air conditioning system to reduce the heat level on the server computer.

14. User or Client
A user or client computer is a public computer that is used to obtain data from the server. Client computers that are connected to a network, function to obtain information or data from the server computer. Network systems between computers like this we often encounter in various daily lives, such as internet cafes, or computer laboratories.

15.Proxy Servers
Proxy Server is a computer network service that allows clients to make indirect network connections to other network services or in other words, is a server computer or computer program that acts as another computer to make requests for content from the internet or intranet.

16. Gateways
A gateway is a device or device used as a medium for connecting one computer network to another, or connecting to several other computer networks that use different protocol systems.

Under these conditions, each computer network can access information owned by other computer networks with different protocols.

17.Multilayer Switches
A multilayer switch is a way of compiling network devices into several levels because there are a large number of connected end users in the network, so it is necessary to carry out trunking between switch networks in stages.

18. Network Attached Storage
Network Attached Storage (NAS) is a storage network device that is connected to the main network. That way, it can be used as additional storage when the client computer needs it. How NAS works can be explained like cloud storage which is now widely used, but NAS is local because only client computers can access it.

19. CCTV
CCTV stands for Closed Circuit Television), which is a digital video camera whose function is to record images, then send them to a computer monitor screen. Later, the results of the CCTV recording will be stored on a hard disk or NVR which can be accessed via a computer or even a smartphone.

The use of CCTV in everyday life is usually for surveillance functions, for example monitoring a room so that there is no theft or to monitor shop visitors.

20. Protocol Converter
Protocol Converter or in Indonesian is a protocol converter is hardware (hardware) whose job is to convert (change) two different types of transmission for interoperation.

21.USB WiFi Adapter
A USB Wifi Adapter is a replacement for a Wifi Card on your computer that has problems causing your computer to be unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network. Many types of wifi cards are already on the market. If your wifi card has problems, just plug the USB Wifi adapter into the USB port, install the driver, then you can easily connect to a wi-fi network.

22.Firewalls
A firewall is a computer network security system that is used to protect computers from outside computer attacks. Firewalls can be installed in software and hardware, or a combination of the two. Computer protection with a firewall is absolutely necessary so that the computer is always safe when connected to the internet, for example.

23. Multiplexers
Multiplexer is a piece of equipment that functions to make effective use of communication channels by means of 'sharing between users' or can be interpreted as a switch that accepts several input channels into one channel.

24. Network Access Translator
Network Address Translator (NAT) or can be interpreted as a Network Address Translator is a computer network device that provides public IP addresses to local network devices so that many private IPs can access public IPs. NAT translates private IP addresses to be able to access host addresses on the internet using public IP addresses on that network.
